After more than a decade spent writing and performing together, the five members of Lowly are returning to the band’s roots: five musicians gathered in the same room, seeking the most authentic and captivating way to translate their deepest emotions into songs. In Lowly, there is no real leader. The band functions more as a single entity, a collective in which each member contributes their own sensibility and expertise. It is this dynamic that makes their music so unique, with the result far exceeding the sum of its parts.

Through ten sweeping tracks, Lowly tells a story of modern life, ranging from reflections on parenthood and the quest for cohesion to the search for the courage needed to move forward in an increasingly unstable world.

“When the world goes this mad, courage is more relevant than ever,” explains Steffen. “Perhaps that’s why we’re expressing these feelings on this album in particular: we’re currently living through the craziest period of our entire lives. We’ve had a lot of discussions: what do we want to do? Why do we want to be a band in such circumstances? And if we’re going to be one, then we have to do it in a truly, truly caring and sustainable way. Let’s take responsibility for this process and also have the courage to release an album that isn’t overproduced.”

For the first time in their career, Lowly chose to self-produce their album, a decision that allowed them to rethink their way of working and to gauge their impact on the final result more directly. “On our last album, we worked with our producer, Anders Boll,” says Soffie. “He was the backbone of the project and we took turns working with him. For much of the production, not all the band members were in the studio at the same time. I’m happy with the album, but it was sometimes a bit of a detached experience… This time, we simply wanted to be all together in one room and play our music. We rented a house where we recorded a few tracks, then we also worked in a studio in Aarhus. So the experience was, above all, centred on being together: less technical fiddling around with the sound, but much more human interaction. »

Of all their albums to date, Softy is undoubtedly the one that most faithfully captures the essence of Lowly. Not just in its atmosphere, lyrics or music, but in the way the five members have worked together for over ten years: like the different parts of a single organism, in a form of interdependence where everyone’s contribution is essential.

Softy is thus the result of five people who need no words to communicate, and who have transformed this instinctive understanding into a seamless listening experience, spanning both their greatest successes and their most vulnerable moments. Four albums on from their debut, Lowly continues to explore what makes it so strong: this ability to move forward together, without ever sacrificing the individualities that make up the band. And, in a way, this is only the beginning.
